The Forward Belly Air
Mike Stewart was one of the first riders to master the 360 air. To pull it, you need to have your spin technique down as it take, s skill and timing to huck this one. As always, drive off the bottom with plenty of speed and project towards a bowly section as if you're going for an air. Just before you launch off the lip, throw your body into the spin.
If you have generated enough speed, you should travel into the air while your body motion continues with the 360-degree rotation. The success rate of this trick will now depend on whether you timed your spin launch correctly. If you didn't, you will fly off the back. If you are still in control of the spin while in the air, you should be looking to where you will re-enter on the wave face.
Ideally, you want to have completed most of the rotation fully in the air so you just have to worry now about landing it. As your board begins to touch back down on the wave face, stretch your legs to help plane the surface and gain some control as well as slow you down. Brace your elbows to take some of the downward pressure. Re-centre your weight and throw in a quick wave to the adoring fans on the beach. You deserve it,
Mike Stewart At 34, Stewie has spent the past decade redefining bodyboarding. He wrote the book on style, technique and performance levels. His contribution to the sport has made him the most respected of all bodyboarders. With nine world titles and 10 Pipeline victories under his belt, it's hard to imagine what else he has to achieve. Mike is-an extremist who is continually pushing the limits, wh~ther in board design or riding the hugest waves on the planet. Every bodyboarder owes thanks to Mike in some way or another. Let's hope he continues to break standards and make the improbable possible. |
