The Forward Off-The-Lip Spin
This trick is an extension of the common 360 belly spin. The only difference is, where you pull it is a lot more critical, By spinning off the lip, it's easy to get launched and blow the landing. With the right amount of speed and timing, like Ryan Hardy has pulled in this sequence, it's not as difficult as it looks.
Check out shot I of the sequence. To get here, Rhino needed to come off the bottom hard. As he approaches the throwing lip he has already begun to spin anti-clockwise. By getting up and onto the lip while keeping his board flat, he uses the throwing motion of the lip to help turn his board. Luckily for Ryan, this wave is not too steep and he doesn't get pitched. Instead, he floats down, with the foam shifting his weight forward, and completes the full circle as he drops down the face with legs extended.
When attempting this move, you need the right wave situation. The more bowly the wave, the more sensational it will look and feel. |
