The Invert

Once known as the table top, this innovative trick follows the same basic principles as launching an air, with a slight twist. The invert gets its name from the way in which you hold your board high above your head as you fly above the lip, imitating the natural arc of the wave.

In this sequence, Harry shows perfect technique as he blasts one at Vana Reef, Reunion Island. To even consider attempting this move, you need to have a ramp or throwing lip section. It's necessary to turn sharply off the bottom to get the speed for maximum launch and to time your projection with the throwing lip. Harry uses the impact to get air then twists his board overhead so it's parallel and inverted.

By now, the lip's momentum should carry him up and over the breaking wave while his legs retain contact with the foam to help maintain control.

Landing is always critical in these air moves as they put the most pressure on your back, Use your hips and elbows to reduce your impact and try to land on the lip explosion.
