The Stall
The idea of the stall manoeuvre is to reduce momentum to allow the tube to catch up. In this photo of Wazza Feinbeer, you can see how he is using his legs to create drag by digging them into the wave face. By slowing his forward speed he will hold the stall while the lip passes overhead until he is comfortable with how deep in the tube he wants to be. To release, he will lie down on his board and slide his weight forward.
Another means of stalling is lifting the nose of your board by pulling up and leaning your weight to the tail. This trick is all about instinct. Knowing how long and hard to stall will allow you to achieve maximum tube time.
Warren Feinbeer Wazza should be classed as a bodyboarding extremist. His love of big, thick, powerful waves has seen him rush some }f the gnarllest waves ever ridden. At Shark island, he's a familiar sight with his white helmet and no-limits riding. A recent back injury From a psycho wipeout hasn't slowed him at all. Wazza's still out there charging every time the Island looks threatening.
