The Tube
Before you can get tubed you must have your bottom turn, trim and stall technique working pretty solid. When the right tubing section comes your way, a combination of these three things will get you inside a barrel.
As you come off the bottom, turn up into the wave section, which is beginning to hollow out, by leaning on your inside rail and pulling up on your outside rail. Once in position and you can see the lip about to throw, make sure there's enough room for the lip to throw over your head. Slide back on your board while holding your inside edge.
If you have too much speed, throw in a stall to allow the barrel to catch up. On the other hand, if the lip is racing, lean forward to build speed. Tube riding comes down to positioning and minor adjustments. No two tubes will be the same, so experience will play an important role in your success. If the tube opening is small, make sure you keep your head tucked and your eyes on the breaking lip.
Steer your board towards the opening and, if all goes well, you will fly out of the tube an addicted barrel junkie. If the wave closes out on you, don't worry. The more time you spend inside getting familiar with your surroundings, the more comfortable you will become.
Tube rides are one of the biggest stokes you can have with bodyboarding, so enjoy the rush and try to keep your eyes open the whole time.
